'sindikit contributes to Artist as Culture Producer!!
Book Release at the Strand!!
| 'sindikit | is pleased to announce our contribution to the book Artist as Culture Producer: Living and Sustaining a Creative Life. we have a little | 'sindikit | pride in this one (see book!). our contributing essay is based on Creative, Collaborative and Co-Working models that have aided us at the 'sindikit project and in our positions at American University.
The Artist as Culture Producer: Living and Sustaining a Creative Life is a collection of essays by 40 visual artists describing how their practices and philosophies move from their studios to the communities in which they live and work. Sharon Louden describes the contributors as ' change agents' in their communities'. and we appreciate the moniker! some artists are social advocates and activists. what they do in their studios and in their communities is one and the same. most artists are solitary studio beings who save their socializing for later. as artist citizens we all shape and contribute to our communities in meaningful ways.
many artists are generous with their time and create opportunities for other artists. we've had artists do that for us--they've shared exhibition opportunities, engaged with us in our studios, and embraced us in their communities. and we know so many artists who are opportunity makers for other artists and change agents in their respective cities.

"Their first-hand stories show the general public how contemporary artists of the 21st century add to creative economies through their out-of-the-box thinking while also generously contributing to the well-being of others. Although there is a misconception that artists are invisible and hidden, the truth is that they furnish measurable and innovative outcomes at the front lines of education, the non-profit sector, and corporate environments." Sharon Louden, artist, educator, and editor of Living and Sustaining a Creative Life Series
