‘sindikit congratulates Joyce Scott on her well deserved MacArthur Fellowship!

we are super thrilled and congratulate Joyce J. Scott on her MacArthur Fellowship! the MacArthur Fellowship is an annual prize awarded by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation to approximately 25 people who are making noteworthy impact in their respective fields, are highly motivated in their practices, and are dedicated in their communities.

Joyce Scott is committed to Baltimore and to artists at all stages of their careers. we love you Joyce! we will forever thank you for taking a chance on | ‘sindikit | to be in our first pair of artist projects with Allana Clarke. here’s a reminder of Joyce’s awesome, whimsical, and layered 5-channel installation at | ‘sindikit |:

and we thank you, Joyce, for your support of the | ’sindikit | project and for believing in us!

many of us have attended Joyce’s artist talks, but, for those of you unlucky people that haven’t, here’s a taste. but, really, if she’s ever talking in your neck of the woods, GO hear her and then introduce yourself to her.

yes folks. now ya know!

"I HAVE A LIGHT, A VERY BRIGHT LIGHT. IT WAS GIVEN TO ME BY MY PARENTS…THEY HAD TO HIDE THEIR LIGHTS UNDER BUSHELS BECAUSE OF WHO THEY WERE, WHAT THEY LOOKED LIKE, AND WHERE THEY LIVED, AND WHO THEIR PARENTS WERE. WELL, FORGET ABOUT THE BUSHEL, THAT’S NOT ME. MY PARENTS ATE DUNG SO THAT I COULD HAVE SUGAR.

I WILL NOT BE DENIED.

IF YOU CAN'T COP A HIT OFF THIS FLAME—STEP OFF! BECAUSE I BLAZE!"

much love and respect to you Joyce.

the 2016-17 cycle of the | 'sindikit | project is partially supported by the Grit Fund, a Regional Regranting Program administered by The Contemporary and funded by The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts and the Robert W. Deutsch

Foundation.
